Certified Portfolio Manager (R) Program

Candidates interested in the Certified Portfolio Manager (R) Program should review the information at www.academyofcpm.org.  ACPM is a new, non-profit organization which is responsible for the CPM credential beginning in June, 2010.

PMI thanks those current and former Board Members and Officers who successfully created and implemented the CPM credential, leading to the certification of 80 portfolio managers over two years.  22 individuals completed the certification in June, 2009; 58 finished in May, 2010.  ACPM is now the key contact for information, registration, curriculum and certification.  PMI congratulates these graduates, they are the pace-setters for what we expect will be the leading credential for portfolio management in the financial services industry!

The overview of CPM referenced below refers to the 2009 and 2010 graduating classes and is for information only.

The Certified Portfolio Manager (CPM)
 (R) designation is sponsored by the Portfolio Management Institute, Columbia University in New York City and the Portfolio Management Group of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. The academic component of the credentialing process is designed by the Curriculum Committee of PMI to provide a deeper understanding of fundamental security analysis, asset allocation, and portfolio management concepts. The modules to be completed encompass core finance concepts that include: Quantitative Methods, Financial Statement Analysis, Corporate Finance, Fixed Income Analysis, Equity Analysis, Derivatives, and Portfolio Management.  Use the links in the right navigation menu for more information and access to the Zoologic site.

Learning outcome modules have been selected by the Curriculum Committee and approved by the Board of Directors of PMI. These web-based, self-learning, exercises are designed by the financial industry education provider, Zoologic, a subsidiary SS&C Technologies Inc.

It is anticipated that each candidate, spending an average of 6 hours per week, could complete the course work over a 7 to 8 month period.  Please note the "Study Tracking Spreadsheet" link as well.

Helpful Hints:
#1 Take notes as you go through the modules.
#2 Accomplish the modules in the preferred sequence.
#3 Have a financial calculator handy, (HP12c).

End of module exams consist of 10 objective questions that must be passed in order to complete the module. The exams are “open book” and candidates are allowed multiple attempts to achieve a passing score.

After completing the web-based courses, candidates are then eligible to attend the academic seminar at Columbia University.
